Sony Pictures is set to bring another anime hero to the big screen, this time in a live action role. There will be a live-action adaptation of One Punch Man Movie, with the director being Justin Lin, best known for his work on the Fast and the Furious franchise. On Monday, Deadline broke the news about Sony’s upcoming film.
In 2006, Lin made his debut in the Fast and Furious franchise with the release of Tokyo Drift. To free up his time for Star Trek Beyond and several episodes of True Detective, Lin has since directed four more films in the franchise. He has delegated the direction of films seven and eight to others.
In the beginning, One Punch Man was a web comic written by the pen name One, but it quickly gained a large following and was turned into an official manga by Yusuke Murata. Madhouse quickly turned the manga into an anime that was both critically and commercially successful.
Season one of the show is widely regarded as one of the best ever, but season two was met with mixed reviews at best because it was handled by J.C. Staff instead of Madhouse and was released several years after season one.
